For this project, we had the pleasure of working with the Simic Architecture and Heatherbrae teams to bring a remarkable vision to life for the owners of Unsworth Winery. Set in a stunning rural landscape, the new tasting room rises naturally from its surroundings, offering an experience that rivals many of the province’s most memorable wine spaces. As guests step through the doors, they’re welcomed by our custom-built reception area, setting the tone for everything that follows. Just behind it, the private tasting room pairs warm materials with intentional detailing, inviting slower moments and private tastings. Integrated TVs immerse guests in the beauty of the surrounding vineyards and property. Our scope also included the slat ceiling overhead, the vertical fins defining the back of the room, and the back-of-house cabinetry that keeps the space running seamlessly. And downstairs, you’ll find a deceptively strong floating shelf, purpose-built to cradle nearly ninety-nine bottles of wine on the wall…
West Isle Industries provided the full scope of architectural millwork across the project. Our work included bathroom millwork with integrated solid surface sinks, as well as millwork throughout classrooms, kitchen areas including solid surface countertops, benches, breakout rooms, and shared common spaces. The project demanded a high level of coordination and consistency across a wide variety of applications, all delivered to meet the durability and performance requirements of a high-traffic institutional setting.
Located in downtown Langford, the campus represents a first-of-its-kind partnership between Royal Roads University, the University of Victoria, Camosun College, and the Justice Institute of British Columbia, with additional programming space for School District 62 (Sooke). It stands as a strong example of collaborative infrastructure supporting education and community growth on Vancouver Island.
