Treetop Kids Dental called for an unusual balance: a highly functional dental clinic that feels playful and reassuring to children without compromising durability, cleanability, or clinical workflow.
Working with Brittain Construction, Sinclair Dental, and Dr. Bryan Wong, West Isle Industries built the custom millwork that carries this idea throughout the clinic.
The centrepiece is a 16-foot-tall custom tree that rises through the waiting area. Approximately 30 square-profile vertical slats form its trunk and canopy, with selected slats curving apart to create peek-through openings at a child’s scale. Another 40 slats continue down the hallway, carrying the visual language of the tree deeper into the clinic. Each was individually clad in durable woodgrain laminate, providing the warmth of wood with a finish suited to the daily demands of a busy clinic.
That same woodgrain finish continues into a custom bulkhead extending throughout the clinic. It connects the waiting room, hallway, and treatment area, while accommodating lighting and overhead screens. Custom cabinetry and workstations provide the storage and organization required by the dental team without making the space feel institutional.
At reception, a radiused desk is clad in durable solid-surface material. The material was carefully fabricated so that its directional veining continues cleanly around the curve, turning a practical, easy-to-clean surface into one of the project’s most refined details.
Built-in companion seating was also integrated into the waiting and treatment areas, giving parents and siblings a comfortable place to remain close.
The result is a clinic that works on two levels: highly organized and durable for the people working in it, and imaginative, welcoming, and less intimidating for the children who visit.
Dr. Wong was an engaged and collaborative client throughout the project. Brittain Construction brought strong coordination to a challenging buildout, smoothly bringing together the many custom elements required to complete the space.
